The Northern Store.
The Northern Store is the modern day descendent of the old Hudson Bay and Northwest Company fur trading posts. Inside you can buy groceries, clothing, furniture and general merchandise. If you ask the store manager politely you can purchase a boat, snowmobile, computer, pet goldfish, wedding dress or almost anything you want with the store arranging all of the shipping and transportation for you. One restriction is that you cannot purchase any drinking alcohol or any potential substance abuse products. The community post office was located inside this Northern Store. Because the community did not have a bank the Northern Store provided some limited financial services such as cashing pay cheques, government cheques and arranging money transfers for the local community members provided they were making good progress at first paying off any debts they owed to the store.
Independent Shopkeeper's Store
The shopkeeper who operates this store sells a few groceries and some merchandise that he flies in with his private bush plane. He is only open a few days each week because he spends much of his time flying in and out of the community and shopping for items for his store in a distant city.
