Some teenagers waiting to participate in a community protest walk regarding inadequate health care funding.

The speeches by the community leaders outside of the Deer Lake First Nation Band Office before the community protest walk began.
One of the issues of the protest was the financial, administrative and staffing problems being experienced by the Zone Hospital in Sioux Lookout. The Zone Hospital was responsible for providing medical services to all of the First Nation fly in communities in Northwestern Ontario including Deer Lake.
A second issue was the inadequate government funding and provision of transportation services that was hindering and preventing community members of Deer Lake from being able to travel to the Zone Hospital in Sioux Lookout to access medical services.

One last look at the Deer Lake First Nation Band Office as we organize and start out on a protest walk to the Deer Lake Nursing Station. The high school students might be able to walk the distance in about an hour but some of these people will need a lot more time to walk that far.

This picture was taken at a "T" intersection of two roads. Somewhere in the trees behind these teenagers is where some workmen will clear a site for the proposed new school.

A rest stop for the participants in the community protest walk regarding inadequate health care funding.

After a short rest we started walking again.

The school buses are picking up any children, elders and others who were getting too exhausted to keep walking. The cars are full of the sick, injured, crippled and people for whom adequate health care funding was a very real and personal issue. They may not be able to walk the distance but they joined us by following along in the cars.

The yellow buildings are the Deer Lake Nursing Station where the community protest walk ended.
