Start of the winter road heading west across Lake Athabasca. Theoretically it should be possible to reach communities in the province of Alberta and the Northwest Territories if this road extends far enough.
The transport trucks and pickup trucks bringing supplies into Fond du Lac arrive from the east. This road heading west is for the purpose of reaching more remote communities.

Looking south at noon hour the sun is above the Northern Store. The Northern Store is a general store that tries to sell everything you will ever need (food, clothing, housewares, hardware, furniture, snowmobiles ...). There are very few other shopping options in Fond du Lac if you cannot find what you need in the Northern Store. It is wise to make friends with the store manager and staff as they may special order items for you. In many remote communities the Northern Store often provides some banking services such as cashing cheques and accepting telephone bill payments. Inside this Northern Store is the community Post Office.

Inside there is a large room that can be used for weddings, funerals, community dances and other special events.
